(Philadelphia, PA, March 20, 2020) – The Ertz Family Foundation, co-founded by Zach & Julie Ertz, have announced they are donating $100,000 to Philabundance, a Philadelphia-area food bank that is working with the City of Philadelphia to help supply emergency food for individuals and families in need. Philabundance serves 350 smaller agencies, and as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, more than 50 agencies were forced to close. The donation will provide more than 100,000 meals to families in need in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak.

“When we started our foundation two years ago, our goal was to be a light for our Philadelphia community. During these very challenging times, Julie and I are committed to acknowledging the issues at hand and to be a part of the solution. Philabundance has an unbelievable track record in our city and we believe there is no better partner to help us solve the food insecurity challenges presented by COVID-19,” said Philadelphia Eagles tight end, Zach Ertz.

US Women’s National Soccer Team gold medalist and Chicago Red Stars midfielder Julie Ertz said, “One of our main goals during this process was to become better educated about the immediate impacts of COVID-19 on our community. The increasing lack of access to food during the crisis is something we want to help to address.  By partnering with Philabundance we believe we can attack these issues head on and partner with one of the great non-profit organizations in our city to make a difference.”

On any given week, Philabundance will provide meals to 90,000 people, 30 percent of whom are children served in the Philadelphia public school system. Others served include seniors, low-income families and single parents in the greater Philadelphia-area. If you are interested in helping:

  • Any restaurant/supermarket in the greater Philadelphia area which has excess food to donate, please contact http://www.philabundance.org.
  • Others who would like to help through monetary donations (enabling Philabundance to purchase in bulk and buy the most needed items), please go to philabundance.org/covid19/
  • Here’s what your contribution will deliver:
    • $15 provides one shelf-stable box of four meals for a family of four
    • $25 provides one shelf-stable box of eight meals for a family of four
  • Philabundance is also in dire need of volunteers. Please visit their website at http://philabundance.org/volunteer to learn more.

“We know how close this community is and we are a community that always takes care of one another.  If anyone wants to join us in our mission please visit philabundance.org or visit our website at ertzfamilyfoundation.org/donate,” said Zach and Julie Ertz.
