Lending a Helping Hand to Kensington High

The mission of the Ertz Family Foundation is to help those in need, and that’s exactly what the Ertz Family Foundation was able to do for a Philadelphia area high school football team last week.

The Kensington High Tigers had their equipment stolen right out of their locker room last month. Their jerseys, shoulder pads, and even their helmets, were just taken with nothing left behind as they prepared for their season to begin in late August. As the team struggled to rebound, they began a fundraising campaign. But the clock was ticking with the season set to start.

So when Zach Ertz’s mom, Lisa, heard the heartbreaking story, she passed it along to Zach and Julie, and they both wanted to help however they could. Together, they quickly allocated some funds raised from a recent charity event to help the Kensington Tigers with a donation of $10,000 to their cause.

“It’s an honor to help ensure that Kensington High School’s football program is saved,” Zach said. “What started out as an awful blow to their team has resulted in an opportunity to show this community what we are able to do together.”

The donation rallied the Philadelphia football community as well, and the Kensington High online fundraiser has now raised nearly $15,000, which will help the team get suited up for their August 18th preseason game, as well as their August 24th season opener.

“The support has been overwhelming,” Kensington assistant coach Justin Haskell told WIP. “This is something that we’re not used to. We cannot thank everyone enough, especially the Ertz family.”

According to Zach, this donation is just the beginning of what the Ertz Family Foundation can do for those in need.

“We are thrilled to be supporting Kensington High School with the first of many grants to support student-athletes in our beloved city of Philadelphia,” he said.
